Sameer Wankhede, who is heading the investigation of Mumbai’s drugs on a cruise case, is the zonal director of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB)‘s zonal director. The case grabbed national and international headlines after Shah Rukh Khan‘s son Aryan Khan was named the key accused in the case and was arrested along with eight more people.

Sameer Wankhede is an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer,
currently posted as Zonal Director of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Mumbai Unit.

Personal life

Sameer Wankhede was born and brought up in Maharashtra.
His father Dnyandeo Wankhede is a retired police officer. He married
actor-director Kranti Redekar in March 2017. Sameer and Kranti are parents of
twin daughters named “Zia” and “Zaba”. Kranti has worked in several Marathi and
Hindi films. 

Wankhede is reportedly a cinema fan. He is often called a
real-life Singham by netizens.

Sameer Wankhede’s Career

Wankhede hails from Maharashtra and got selected for IRS
in 2008. After completing his training he got his first posting as Deputy
Customs Commissioner in the Air Intelligence Unit at the Chhatrapati Shivaji
International Airport, Mumbai.

Later he was appointed at Additional SP of National
Investigation Agency (NIA). He also served as Joint Commissioner of the
Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).

Sameer has his expertise in drugs and narcotics-related
cases. In September 2020 he was appointed as the Zonal Director of NCB. Under
his leadership, NCB has uncovered a drug racket of around 17 thousand crores.

 Wankhede was appointed as a senior officer to
investigate Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide case. He even investigated other
related celebrities including Riya Chakraborty, Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali
Khan, and Rakul Preet Singh. He has also raided properties owned by Anurag
Kashyap, Vivek Oberoi, and Ram Gopal Verma.

 He was the case in charge when NCB seized drugs
from the house of comedian Bharti Singh and her husband Harsh Limbachia. 

Wankhede has booked more than 2000 celebrities for not
paying taxes. 

One high-profile case was in 2013 when he caught singer
Mika Singh with foreign currency at the Mumbai Airport.

On November 22, 2020, in Mumbai, Wankhede and his
officers were attacked by a MOB of drug Peddlers during his anti-drug raid. 

Currently, he is in the spotlight for investigating the
Boat case where Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan got arrested by NCB.
