Sini Shetty from Karnataka was crowned Miss India 2022 at a ceremony held at Mumbai’s Jio World Centre on Sunday. Rajasthan’s Rubal Shekhawat and Uttar Pradesh’s Shinata Chauhan were the 1st and 2nd runners-up.

Shetty was born in Mumbai and is currently pursuing CFA as a professional course.

Speaking to India Times about her struggle, she said, “I come from a background where my family is traditionally contemporary, yet the community I live in is conservative. I believe the world tries to define a woman’s value in a certain way, and I believe in finding my own meaning to it. To stand out from those values and find my place was a challenge. I am put up in four corners of the box regarding professional value. I was a novice in every professional sphere. Unifying them and working towards it was a hustle. But hustle is something that drives me and is the reason why I’m here.”

The 21-year-old girl is also a trained Bharatanatyam dancer. She started dancing at the age of 4 and at 14, she completed her arangetram (debut on-stage performance). She won the Miss Talent award in Miss India 2022 sub contests.

Speaking to the outlet about her love for dance and herarangetram, she said, “The experiential quality that dance provides is unparalleled, the aligning of mind, spirit, body and soul. One of the memories that continue to stay with me every time I wish to access that happy corner is the day I completed arangetram. It’s a relationship I share with my culture. I believe the sweat from my neck dripping, the beads from the Andal bun on my head clanging, and the adrenaline rush from performing for straight three hours was the best experience I could ever live for.”

“I thanked mother Earth in my namaskaram after completing my arangetram. It was a day that my mentors and parents felt a sense of pride but what is further instilling is the connection it has helped me build and create with my ideas and my culture, pay a tribute of my own to it and make it my own,” she added.
