The Samajwadi Party (SP) has nominated Sunil Chaudhary from the Noida constituency for the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. He has been nominated as candidate for the Noida seat for the third time by the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party but he lost in the first two elections.

Chaudhary, 43, in his election affidavit, has mentioned his educational qualification as Under Graduate Bachelors in Commerce (BCom) 2nd year from Delhi University (Correspondence) in 2017. He has mentioned “Business & Farming” as his profession. The Samajwadi Party’s candidate’s total assets are declared at Rs 16.66 crore and total liabilities are Rs 19.36 lakh. He owns immovable assets worth Rs 16.09 crore and movable assets worth Rs 36.88 lakh. He has declared “Rental income and Agriculture” as his sources of income. Sunil Chaudhary has four criminal cases pending against him.

Chaudhary first contested in the 2012 Assembly election on Samajwadi Party’s ticket in which he got 42,071 votes and came third after BJP’s Mahesh Kumar Sharma (77,319 votes) and BSP’s Omdutt Sharma (49,643 votes). In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections he again contested from the Noida seat as the SP candidate but lost to BJP’s Pankaj Singh by a margin of 1,04,016 votes.

Recently, a video of the candidate and his wife weeping and begging for votes was widely shared on social media. He was seen with folded hands telling his audience, “I can’t bear to lose this time”. It is important for him to win this time to prove that he is not a losing bet.

The BJP has fielded Pankaj Singh (Rajnath Singh’s son) as its candidate from the Noida Vidhan Sabha seat. INC has given ticket to Pankhuri Pathak and Kirpa Ram Sharma will contest for the Bahujan Samaj Party. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has fielded Pankaj Awana from the Noida seat.

In the first phase of the Uttar Pradesh elections, a total of 623 candidates will contest from 58 constituencies. Around 2.27 crore people are eligible to vote in phase one.
