Sri Lankan opener Tillakaratne Dilshan with 500 runs in nine innings was the top run-scorer at the 2011 World Cup that was played in India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. A total of 49 matches were played between the 14 participants. India won the World Cup by defeating Sri Lanka by six wickets in the final. 

This was Sachin Tendulkar’s last-ever World Cup. He made 482 runs finishing just behind Tillakaratne Dilshan.

Dilshan’s highest score was 144. He averaged 62.50 at a strike rate of little more than 90. He scored two centuries and as many half centuries in the tournament. 

The final was played on April 2 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. India were crowned champions after winning by six wickets with only 10 balls remaining. India captain MS Dhoni was named man of the match after an unbeaten, match-winning innings of 91 runs off 79 balls, including the final shot that won the game.
