Parul Debi Das was the first female IAS officer from Assam who passed away on April 26, 2021, of COVID-19 at the Apollo Hospitals in Guwahati. 

Daughter of the former cabinet minister of undivided Assam %u2013 Ramnath Das, she was an Assam-Meghalaya cadre IAS officer.

Parul Debi Das, who retired from service as the Additional Chief Secretary of Assam, was also the sister of former Assam Chief Secretary Naba Kumar Das.

Born on April 2, 1950, at Shillong, she joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1975. 

For a short time, Das served in Meghalaya in the late 80s. 

Following her death, condolences flowed in from all corners. Then Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal condoled the demise of Parul Debi Das. 

Sarbananda Sonowal tweeted: %u201CSaddened to learn about the demise of Parul Debi Das, the first woman IAS officer from Assam, due to COVID19. I convey my sincere condolences to bereaved family members and well-wishers.%u201D

Current Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma too expressed his grief over the sudden demise of Parul Debi Das.

During her tenure as an IAS, she served as Commissioner & Secretary, Handloom, Textiles & Sericulture, Pension & Public Grievances, Food & Civil Supplies, Mines & Minerals, Labour and Employment, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Fishery, Personnel Departments, Commissioner, Upper Assam Division & North Assam Division, Principal Secretary, Personnel Department, Addl. Chief Secretary, PWD, Irrigation, PHE, Water Resources and finally as Chairman, Assam Administrative Tribunal.
