Quoting Mahatma Gandhi on his 151st birth anniversary, Rahul Gandhi on Friday said ‘he won’t bow down to any injustice’. The Congress leader’s statement came a day after he and sister Priyanka Gandhi were detained briefly in Greater Noida during their march to a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras to meet the family members of the 19-year-old gang rape victim.

“I won’t be afraid of anyone in the world…I won’t bow down to any injustice. I will fight the untruth while dealing with all sufferings. Heartiest greetings on Gandhi Jayanti,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted in Hindi.

Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi started a foot march along with dozens of party workers on Thursday afternoon after the police stopped their convoy on way to Hathras at Yamuna Expressway. There were unprecedented scenes as television channels showed Rahul Gandhi being pushed during the face-off with the police. The former Congress leader fell to the ground during the commotion. The Gandhis were then detained by the police.

“Why are you arresting me? What are the grounds for the arrest? What law am I violating,” Rahul Gandhi was seen asking the cops present at the spot.

Later in the day, the Gautam Buddh Nagar police filed an FIR against Rahul, Priyanka Gandhi and around 200 other party workers under The Epidemic Diseases Act for not maintaining social distancing and not wearing face masks.

The FIR was lodged under Indian Penal Code sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 269 (unlawfully or negligently spreading infection of any disease dangerous to life), 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) and under section 3 of the Epidemic Diseases Act, news agency PTI reported.

“Some party members have also been booked for indulging in a scuffle during which some women constables were hurt while the uniform of a lady sub-inspector got torn,” the Gautam Buddh Nagar police said in a statement.
