Veteran
actor Dharmendra, who will turn 85 on December 8, says that birthday
celebrations are not the same for him anymore. “Earlier, I used to celebrate my
birthday but later, I felt it was too artificial, kyun industry mein dikhawa
zyaada hota hai. (It’s more of a show-off in the industry).”

In an interview with
Hindustan Times, he said that “Log janamdin ko promotion ke liye use karte hain
(people use birthdays as an opportunity for promotion).”

The senior actor, who is currently in Mumbai with his family, says that this year is also different
because of so many sufferings around.

“Moreover, this year has
been quite sad with the farmers suffering and the ongoing pandemic – it
doesn’t make one feel happy. You can’t enjoy it. Also, since losing my mum
years ago, I don’t really enjoy celebrating birthdays. She would be so excited
about it,” he said.

Talking more about the
farmer’s protest, he says that “Government jo kar sake, please karen.”

“I have never heard that
farmers are happy as they always suffer due to heavy rains or no rains or any
other environmental reason. They have many hardships and it is painful. They
should be heard and I hope they come to a mutual decision soon. It is so cold
up north and then there is corona too, so I hope this protest gets settled
soon,” he told HT.

Earlier, his actor son and
BJP MP Sunny Deol issued a statement on Twitter, saying the matter is between
the farmers and government, but there are people who are trying to gain
something out of the agitation.

Thousands of farmers have
gathered at various border points since November 26 against new farm laws.
