India's COVID-19 tally reaches 5.7 million

India on Wednesday recorded 86,508 new cases of coronavirus, as per the Health Ministry's tally released on Thursday. Thus, India's total coronavirus tally has reached 5,732,519.
In the past 24 hours, 1,129 people died of COVID-19, bringing the country's death toll to reach 91,149.
There are currently 966,382 active cases, while 4,674,988 have recovered, the Health Ministry's data showed.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Wednesday said that the total samples tested up to Wednesday are 67,436,031 including 1,156,569 samples tested on Wednesday.
India has emerged as the second-worst hit nation by the novel coronavirus. The United States remains the worst-hit country, with over 6.9 million cases and 201,957 deaths, as per the tally by John Hopkins University.
Since the novel coronavirus outbreak was first reported in December, last year, the disease has globally infected over 31.7 million people and killed 975,163 of them.
