Dinesh Karthik-led Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Delhi Capitals in a mouth-watering high-octane clash that will decide who stays at the top of the IPL points table this weekend.
Karthik’s Kolkata lost their opening match against Mumbai Indians by 49 runs in a disastrous start to the campaign. The Kolkata side has since won two games on the trot and will now look to further their winning run when they take on Delhi in the second match of the evening on Saturday.
Kolkata’s Knight Shubman Gill has been in marauding form lately, delivering quick-fire cameos with the bat. Similarly, Aussie pacer Pat Cummins has been living up to his price tag and is getting key breakthroughs with his superior bowling abilities. Shivam Navi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti have been Kolkata’s latest find in the tournament. The duo has come through for the team and has delivered with the ball. Similarly Trinidadian power hitter Andre Russell and English cricketer Eoin Morgan found their footing in the recent outing against Rajasthan Royals.
Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals started the IPL campaign on a positive note. The high-flying Delhi side won two games in quick succession but Sunrisers Hyderabad provided the Shreyas Iyer-led side a reality check in their third match of the tournament. Delhi, however, can take heart from the fact that youngsters Shreyas Iyer, Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant are firing for the team. Bowlers Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada have also been performing well for the Delhi side.
Here we take a look at the Dream 11 fantasy team of the day.
Wicketkeeper: Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant: The 22-year-old who’s claim to fame came in January 2019, when he won the 2018 ICC Emerging player of the year award, has been chipping in with the bat for his Delhi team. Quickfire cameos from Pant have allowed Delhi Capitals to post respectable totals which they can later defend. Pant’s nimble footedness and adroit keeping behind the stumps ensures him a place in the squad ahead of Dinesh Karthik.
Batsman: Shreyas Iyer(c), Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, Eoin Morgan
Captain Shreyas Iyer has 82 runs in the tournament from the three games he has played, but the Delhi skipper is yet to capitalise on his decent starts and pay a captain’s knock. The 26-year old is averaging at a decent 27 runs per game and will be keen to play a match-winning knock for his team.
Shubham Gill hogged the limelight in KKR’s win against Hyderabad and Rajasthan. The 21-year-old has been knocking the ball around in a confident manner. Gill already has 124 runs to his name in the tournament and has carved a space for himself in the KKR squad, courtesy of his performances.
Prithvi Shaw was adjudged the man of the match against Chennai Super Kings for his well-timed 43 balls 64. The former under-19 team India captain will look to live up to his name in this year’s IPL.
Eoin Morgan the English captain hardly needs any introduction, he is England’s all-time highest run-getter in One Day Internationals and has an average of 30.27 in T20s. The English captain who delivered his country the ICC World Cup would love nothing more than to win the IPL for KKR.
Allrounders: Marcus Stoinis, Axar Patel, Andre Russell
Marcus Stoinis: Stoinis played a match-winning knock against Kings XI Punjab in the opening match of the tournament for Delhi. The Kangaroo is known for his hard-hitting prowess and exploits with the ball and will be keen to deliver for the Delhi franchise.
Axar Patel: The left-arm spinner is effective when it comes to curbing opponents from scoring, Patel has been exceedingly economical with the ball this IPL. He also has 2 wickets to his name. Patel will look to replicate his marauding form of 2014 when he clinched 17 wickets, for his Delhi franchise.
Andre Russell: Batting phenom Russell needs little introduction and when he gets going there are very few bowlers who can stop him. Russell will look to find his footing with the bat when he plays against Delhi Capital. Russell has been performing moderately well with the ball and has 2 wickets to his name in IPL 2020.
Bowlers: Kagiso Rabada, Shivam Mavi, Pat Cummins
Kagiso Rabada: Rabada is the leading contender for the purple cap in this year’s IPL and has already clinched 7 wickets. The Protea has been Delhi's trump card this tournament and has been performing day-in and day-out.
Shivam Mavi: Mavi delivered a match-winning performance with the ball against Rajasthan Royals and has been instrumental in the KKR bowling attack, ergo he makes the cut.
Pat Cummins: Cummins had a disappointing outing against Mumbai Indians in his first match for KKR and has come a long way since. The Aussie pacer has two wickets to his name and has delivered with the bat as well.
