The fictional small town of Schitt’s Creek feels like a world of its own. A world, far away from reality, run by the people living there at their own sweet terms.
The Emmy Awards this year feels kind of the same. The entire ceremony dictated by ‘Schitt’s Creek’, from Pop TV network, and their caste. Personally, ‘Schitt’s Creek’ dominating the entire narrative feels too good to be true.
Yet, the Canadian show, which was majorly overlooked in the past, bagged seven Emmys for their final season, a record for most wins in a single season for a comedy series.
Succession, a family drama from HBO, was a big winner in the Drama segment.
The HBO limited series Watchmen, an alternate reality drama which doesn’t feel alternate in the current scheme of things, starred in the 72nd Emmy Awards, landing 11 kudos — more than any other program this year — including the big one for the outstanding limited series.
However, it was HBO who dominated the Emmys season with 30 wins against Netflix’s 21.
Big winners for the Emmys night:
DRAMA

“I would be remiss if we didn’t recognize all the men and women who died in the Tulsa Massacre in 1921, the original sin of our show. This country neglects and forgets its own history at its own peril often and we should never forget that,” said writer Damon Lindelof after the win.
Outstanding Directing For A Limited Series, Movie Or Dramatic Special – Maria Schrader (Unorthodox)
Outstanding Lead Actor In A Limited Series Or Movie – Mark Ruffalo (I Know This Much is True)
Outstanding Lead Female Actor in a Limited Series – Regina King (Watchmen)
COMEDY

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series – Eugene Levy
Outstanding Lead Female Actor In A Comedy Series – Catherine O’Hara
It was her first acting Emmy for her role as Moira Rose on “Schitt’s Creek.”
With that, ‘Schitt’s Creek’ swept away all the awards in the comedy segment.
