KBC Offline Quiz (December 2, 2021): India's biggest Kidney Dialysis Hospital has been inaugurated at which place in Delhi?
Majnu Ka Tila
Answer: Balasahib Gurudwara
The Guru Harikshan Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Kidney Dialysis Hospital was inaugurated by the Delhi Sikh Management Committee (DSGMC) on the Gurudwara Bangla Sahib premises in Delhi. The body has decided to provide free services to all patients, at the facility. It started with 101 beds in the first phase, in March 2021, with a plan for 5,000 beds to be added throughout the year.
It is built to function around the clock, and the food is served from the langar. Both patients and their families can avail this food for free too. Patients can seek treatment once they register themselves. Since the hospital is focused on offering free medical care, it runs with the help of other people. Expenses are met through donations from corporate giants, private individuals, and by implementing government schemes.
When it began, the hospital would only accept registrations in person. However, they made provisions to also accept online registrations too. Notably, construction had started back in 2000, but there were some controversies, which is why it took as long as it did for the facility to open its doors to patients.
Now, as a functional hospital, it boasts of using advanced medical technology. Naturally, this initiative has drawn praise from several quarters, with many praising the Sikh community for their socially helpful initiative. Their tradition of serving the community has been noted as a humbling experience as well.
