KBC 13: Mahatma Gandhi Ji gave which of the following slogan to people?
A) Go Back to Vedas
B) Quit India
C) Do or Die
D) Vande Mataram
Answer: (C) Do or Die
The Quit India Movement, also known as the Bharat Chodo Andolan, was a watershed moment in India's independence struggle. People from all throughout India banded together to oppose British imperialism under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi. In a furious speech delivered in Mumbai in 1942, Mahatma Gandhi issued a "do or die" plea to the people of India in an attempt to persuade the British to leave. Following the launch of the Quit India Movement, several Congress leaders, including Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Abul Kalam Azad, and others, were imprisoned for sedition, alongside Mahatma Gandhi.
It was launched at the Bombay session of the All India Congress Committee and is also known as the August Kranti Movement. A resolution was also approved calling for civil disobedience if the British did not accede to the demands for total governance transfer.
"Here is a mantra, a short one that I give you. You may imprint it on your hearts and let every breath of yours give expression to it. The mantra is: 'do or die'. We shall either free India or die in the attempt; we shall not live to see the perpetuation of our slavery," Mahatma Gandhi said.
