Krishna Janmashtami or Golukashtami will be celebrated on August 30 this year. It is the celebration of birth anniversary of Lord Krishna and it is incomplete without a selection of traditional sweets. Known for his love for Makhan or hand churned butter, Lord Krishna is offered milk products and butter on this festival.

As per the tradition, there is a culture of preparing Chappan bhog for Lord Krishna on Janmashtami. So, we have curated a few easy and quick Janmashtami dessert recipes for you to help prepare for the festival:

Rasmalai

Rasmalai is made from milk, paneer and dry fruits and you can add garnish it with a few strands of kesar if you love it.

Rabri

A traditional Indian dessert, Rabri is part of most Indian celebrations and festivals. It is thick, creamy residue that is left behind after milk is evaporated.

Phirni

Made from broken or semi grounded rice and cooked with milk, phirni is an aromatic dish. It has been a part of the Indian traditions through generations.

Peda

Peda is made using milk, saffron, sugar and dry fruits. It is the most famous sweet associated with Krishna Janmashtami.

Mishti Doi

Sweetened yogurt, prepared with caramelised sugar, warm milk and plain yogurt, Mishti Doi is rich, creamy and got perfect texture. This dessert is very simple but has a rich taste.

Kulhad Kheer

This sweet dish is made using milk, rice and nuts. It is mostly prepared on the eve of Janmashtami.

Kalakand

Kalakand is made by thickening milk and then adding sugar and dry fruits. It is allowed to rest and then cut into small square pieces. It is made with full cream milk and has shorter shelf life.

Coconut Laddoo

A simple and lip-smacking dessert, it is so easy to make. It is made using coconut, cardamom powder, a sweetener and milk.

Cham Cham

Cham Cham is made using paneer and condensed milk and has a very short shelf life.

Basundi

Basundi is made from milk, saffron, lemon juice, green cardamom powder, and almonds. It can be easily made at home and is also served to lord Krishna during midnight celebration of Janmashtami.
