If you’re looking to appear taller, it’s all about visually creating a smooth, unbroken line from your head to your toes. Here are a few tricks you can adopt, that will compliment your petite frame even better and fetch you an illusion of being taller.

Fit is important

In order to look tall, we’re not suggesting you have to wear bodycon dresses, but wearing bulky, billowing clothes will highlight how tiny you are. So, even if you want to wear a loose-fitting dress, just make sure that your waist at least nips in.

Wear vertical stripes

Clothing with vertical lines draw the eye up and down and make you look taller. For example, wearing vertical stripes elongates you. So does clothing with a long row of buttons, a zipper that runs top to bottom, a long scarf, anything with a ribbed pattern. Even an unbuttoned jacket with a solid color underneath allows the eye to flow from top to bottom.

Wear jeans with a flare

Opt for jeans with a flare, which will draw the attention down and give the illusion that you are taller. Opt for a leg length which comes closest to the floor, but which doesn’t skim it. By choosing longer length jeans, you create longer looking legs. Choosing cropped jeans would visually draw a line across your calves or ankles, making your legs look shorter.

Just fake it

Higher-waisted pants and skirts will make your legs look longer and your torso appear shorter. This creates a lengthening effect. Not only does the higher waist create the illusion of longer legs, but the exaggerated length also covers up footwear entirely, which means the observer cannot discern heel height.

Stick to one piece outfit

One piece garment such as dresses, jumpsuits and rompers will make a short person look taller, because the continuous colors or prints can create a vertical line which lengthens your frame. Compared to separate top and bottom, one piece outfit does not emphasize where your torso and legs are divided, which makes it much less noticeable if you happen to have short legs.

Wear deeper necklines

V-necklines open up the chest, make your neck look longer, and your whole body taller. Crew necklines, on the other hand, focus the eye from side to side making you look wider.

Go monochrome

Wearing too many colors in a single dress gives you a shorter look by breaking up the body. Cheat your viewers with a taller and vertical impression of you. Using a single colored dress would surely create an illusion of height.

Slip on pointed shoes

Whether you rock them with a heel or without, a pointed shoe will elongate your leg, giving the appearance of height. Matching your shoe color to your pants, socks or tights will also help lengthen your frame, especially if it’s a dark color like navy or black.

Accessorize to your body size

The wider the bag, the greater the width you force the naked eye to take in, which reduces it ability to take in height. As a general rule, accessories should be scaled to your body size. Clutches, cross-body bags and smaller totes will help you look taller.

Go for skin-toned footwear

Going for nude or skin-toned pairs have a certain leg-lengthening effect as your shoes become invisible and seemingly become one with your legs. Skip the straps because those bisect your legs at the ankle, cutting you off at the wrong point.
