Havana syndrome, the mystery illness that had affected the American diplomats in Cuba is linked to “directed, pulsed radio frequency energy”, a report by the US government, quoted The Guardian.

This illness was possibly caused by mosquito fumigation and noisy crickets and people suffering from the illness has mentioned symptoms like headaches, nausea, dizziness, blurred vision and other infections.

But recently a report from the National Academics of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine commissioned by the State Department, suggests the involvement of radio frequency energy.

The report says that while psychological and social factors could play a part in Havana syndrome, they did not explain “the acute initial, sudden-onset, distinctive, and unusual symptoms” and signs, reported The Guardian.

The US and Canadian embassy staffs who were posted to Cuba started complaining in 2016 about speech problems, nosebleeds, hearing loss and several other symptoms. Heard high chirping like of crickets, felt a ringing in their ears, they added.

This episode compelled the US state department to expel two Cuban diplomats from Washington in 2017.

US President Donald Trump blamed this incident on the government of Cuba, saying: “It’s a very unusual attack, as you know. But I do believe Cuba is responsible.”

The Cuban government simply denied any involvement in this incident and added, they tackled the matter very carefully.

Mike Pompeo, the secretary of state, said the significant US government resources had been employed to go through this syndrome and what are their causes, reported The Guardian.
