There are many brands who are exploring gender neutral outfits for the experimental youth and now you can add this jewellery brand in the list of fashion must haves.  If you%u2019re looking to curate an unconventional mix of jewels beyond the boundaries of gender, Funky Maharani is one brand that brings together heritage and contemporary design to create pieces of jewellery that are unique, elegant and fun.

Every piece is timeless can be worn by people from across the spectrum – men, women, genderqueers and gender variants. Sharp male lines have been replaced with softer designs, where women are choosing more texture and matte finishes while men prefer high gloss and sparkle.

Steven Jhangiani, Co-founder at Funky Maharani says that %u201CIt would be more accurate to say that Funky Maharani focuses on being inclusive.%u201D

%u201C Inclusive to people of other cultures, inclusive to people of varying age groups, and inclusive to people of different genders. Historically, the pieces we design and make would be marketed to females only. As we are living in an age of greater expression blurring traditional lines, we wanted people, all people, to feel welcome to purchasing and enjoying our pieces.

%u201CIn an age where we can see a Harry Styles or a Ranveer Singh sporting %u201Cfemale%u201D clothing on the cover of Vogue, it’s only a matter of time before that extends over to jewellery.  And we%u2019re proud to be at the forefront of that,%u201D he told Opoyi.

Talking about designs, he said that it  consists of Maang Tikkas, Jhumkas and Payals, all designed around globally recognised motifs (think a butterfly or skull Maang Tikka).

%u201C In developing this collection, it was important that we not only pay homage to the past, to our culture, but that we use these pieces to offer a modern entry to the world of traditional Indian pieces to those that may not have been familiar. In developing this line, one of the thoughts we had was %u201CWhat type of a Maang Tikka could someone wear to bar%u201D?

%u201CExtending that train of thought, we then thought about the type of person these pieces would attract.  It was that that led us to the realisation that maybe these pieces were wearable by people of all genders,%u201D he said.

As a genderless brand, the founders and designers promise a much-needed sanctuary for people who have otherwise been excluded – challenging the old rules of conformity.

From whimsical skulls, to birds in flight, intricately designed roses and peacock feathers, each piece enables you to express your individuality and make a statement in a way that is fun.
