International Men’s
Day is observed on November 19 all over the world to shed light on men
and their contribution to society, communities and families. On this day,
discussions, campaigns and public seminars are organized to create awareness
about men’s well-being and health.

International Men’s
Day: Six Pillars

International
Men’s Day is based on six pillars that focus on building positive role models
for men – the heroes of the working class of everyday life. It also focuses on
celebrating the contributions of men to society, communities, family, marriage,
child care and the environment. The third pillar promises to take care of men’s
health and social, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. It also
exposes the discrimination they face in many areas. International Men’s Day
creates awareness on sexual orientation and focuses on promoting gender
equality. It also promises to create a better and safer world in which everyone
can grow or develop well.

International
Men’s Day 2021: History

In 1999,
International Men’s Day was first celebrated by Jerome Teelucksingh, Professor
of History, University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago, to remember
his father’s birthday. He also encouraged everyone to use the day to bring up
issues affecting men and boys.
