Undoubtedly,
the monsoon provides welcome relief from the heat and is one of the best times
of the year. And why not? You have all the reasons – droplets of rain on the
window, the smell of damp soil, and of course chai and pakodas. However, for
others, it’s not that pleasant because of the fear of damp interiors and
leakages.
Follow these
tips to make your home the best place to be in while it pours outside!
Get repairing work done on time
This is the
most important tip to keep your house in proper condition during monsoon. Check
all exterior surfaces such as roofs, walls, etc., for crack and get them
repaired. The cracks in the walls allow moisture to seep in and causing the
growth of fungus and damp patches over time. You need to fill in the gaps with
crack-fill putty and you are sorted!
Don’t use carpets
Carpets and
rugs tend to stay damp on coming in contact with water and thus spoil
everything around it, leaving a damp smell in the house. Make sure that you
store the carpets in a cool and dry place.
Get faulty wires checked
Another
important tip is to get all the faulty wires repaired. They could cost you
dearly! Heavy rains could cause major electrical failure and short circuits.
You need to make sure that all the wires are properly covered and safe. You
should also cover your fuse box with a shed or plastic.
Don’t forget about your wooden
furniture
Be careful
of the wooden furniture kept in the verandah. Shift all the furniture at least,
two inches away from the wall (to avoid moisture seeping in from walls).
At all
times, you should have moisture-absorbing products in your house like
naphthalene balls or neem leaves in your wooden box bed, cupboards, drawers,
and cabinets.
If you have
wooden flooring, use a dry mop instead of a wet one.
