The festival of Dhanteras is celebrated two days before Deepawali. The festival is also known as Dhanatrayodashi or Dhanvantari Trayodashi. On this day, people buy electronic goods, utensils, metals or anything they need and bring them home, but on this day most people buy only gold or utensils. This year Dhanteras is be celebrated on November 13, but there are a few things which are considered inauspicious to buy and should be avoided on this day.
One should not buy iron items on Dhanteras. Bringing things made of iron on this day is believed to bring the ominous shadow of Rahu planet along. According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that troubles begin as soon as Rahu is sighted.
The relation of glass is also believed to be from Rahu planet. Therefore, nothing made of glass should be taken or bought on the day of Dhanteras.
Often people have always been taking steel utensils on Dhanteras. But steel is considered to be another form of iron, so one should not buy steel utensils or anything on this day.
Black color stuff
On the day of Dhanteras, one should avoid buying anything black, black brings bad luck according to astrologists. The color is considered as a symbol of bad luck specially when there are festivities around.
No sharp item
Buying any sharp items on Dhanteras is not considered auspicious so do not invest in buying knife, scissors, or any sharp weapon. Also, if you're going to buy things like oil or ghee on the day of Dhanteras, be a little cautious.
