The Los Angeles Lakers on Friday said Anthony Davis will be sidelined for at least two weeks because of a muscle injury, adding that he is making steady progress towards full fitness. The defending champions said Davis will be re-evaluated in two weeks by medical professionals before he is cleared to play, confirming he will miss at least nine games, including against the Indiana Pacers on Friday, ESPN reported.

Davis was cleared to ramp up his recovery after being examined by team doctors on Friday ahead of their first game since the All Star break against Indiana.
The Lakers have lost seven of their last 10 games without Davis, who has been sidelined since having to leave a game against the Denver Nuggets on February 14 after sustaining an injury on his right leg. The 28-year-old has an Achilles tendinosis and calf strain in his right leg.

Davis has recorded an average of 22.5 points - the lowest of his career since his second year in the league - and 8.4 rebounds - the lowest since his rookie year - this year after clinching the title in the NBA bubble in Orlando, Florida.

Marc Gasol is also on the sidelines currently due to the league's health and safety protocols. Damian Jones, having signed a second consecutive 10-day contract this week, started at centre against the Pacers.
