Mumbai has opened its first drive-in COVID-19 vaccination centre at Kohinoor Parking Lot in Dadar West caters specifically to senior citizens and disabled people. The facility can take up to 5,000 beneficiaries per day across seven booths that have two reserved booths for drive-ins.
Assistant Commissioner of the G/North ward Kiran Dighavkar said, “The facility has the capacity to inoculate 5,000 beneficiaries per day across seven booths. Two of these booths are reserved for drive-ins”.
It is the first drive-in vaccination centre in Mumbai, and its operation began on Tuesday. It is a multi-storeyed parking lot located in JK Sawant Marg, near Shivaji Park, Dadar West. The centre caters not only to senior citizens and disabled people but also to the ones with the age of over 45 who are due for their second dose of vaccination.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced the facility on Twitter on Tuesday morning. The registration for the drive will be at the centre.
The two booths reserved for drive-ins can accommodate up to 200 people per day for inoculation, and almost 50-70 cars at a given time. They can take their vaccine shots while being seated in their cars. The observation period of 30 minutes can also be spent in the car.
