Kabaddi

Answer: Football

Born in 1945, Vijay Barse is an Indian social worker from Nagpur, Maharashtra, who is known for founding the organisation Slum Soccer that helps uplift underprivileged children through football.

Barse worked as a sports teacher at the Hislop College, one of the oldest colleges in Nagpur, and got the idea to establish Slum Soccer after he saw some underprivileged children playing with a makeshift football.

Barse’s story came to public attention after it was featured in the first episode of ‘Satyamev Jayate’ by actor Amir Khan.

As Barse’s story gained momentum, it caught the attention of filmmaker Nagraj Manjule, who made it into a film, ‘Jhund’ (2022) that was released on March 4 this year.

The film stars Amitabh Bachchan as Barse, which the social worker considers to be a great honour.

“I haven’t met Mr Bachchan yet. But he might’ve a lot of material about me to study. I keep meeting Nagraj regularly. We are always in touch. Because of Amitabh Bachchan’s involvement, I know my mission of slum soccer is going to travel far and wide,” Barse told PTI as the movie was being made.

“From children to adults, everyone is a fan of Bachchan. So when he will give my message, what greater honour there could be? It’s an honour for me, that this century’s greatest actor is going to play my role,” he added.
