A pack of blue dogs has been spotted in Russia, alarming authorities
who have begun looking for the cause of their strange appearance. Originally
spotted by local residents near a chemical factory named Dzerzhinskoye
Orgsteklo, a total of five canines were clicked wandering about on a road near the factory, according to various media reports.

The suspected reason of the coats of the dogs picking up the bright blue hue is thought so far to be the remainder of pollutants that were left
inside the factory, after it shut down roughly six years ago.

The plant, situated in the Nizhny Novgorod region, reportedly
used to produce plexiglass and hydrocyanic acid, shutting down thereafter due
to economic downturn.

“Homeless dogs are running around. Perhaps in one of the
buildings they found some chemical residue like copper sulphate,” The
factory’s bankruptcy manager Andrey Mislivets was quoted as saying.

Following the pictures going up online, authorities in the
city of Dzerzhinsk are now in the process of getting inside the property, which
is private in nature, and find the source of the material that dyed their coat
blue, as well checking up on their health.

Mislivets further agreed to the possibility of the strays finding
copper sulphate and rolling in it.

The blue, a raw chemical is used to make different copper products
as well as activities such as agriculture, mining and painting among other
things.
