24-year-old Philem Rohan Singh from Manipur is a cyclist
with a cause, and has certainly been doing his bit to help the needy. With India
entering its nationwide lockdown period in March 2020, the Imphal-based cyclist
noticed the scarcity of food among parts of the populace, and since been
distributing food to the homeless and needy in Imphal with his friends, averaging
about 40 to 50 people on a daily basis, as per various media reports.

With lockdown measures lifted several months back
and the country slowly getting back to its rhythm, he has, however, set his
eyes apparently upon something bigger.

The 24-year-old has now set his eyes upon a road
expedition to further his cause.

In order to add a boost to whatever sum they
earlier managed to earn by selling Singh’s ‘Cycling for Humanity’ t-shirts and
feed those without resources, the cyclist visibly decided to raise the stakes,
deciding to embark on a nationwide journey of two months to raise awareness as
well as funds.

“We have been running this campaign for nearly
a year now. Initially, we started helping the homeless during the lockdown, and
at that time even we had not planned to keep this for so long. We have not
received any support from the government or the authorities to feed them. Now
we have reached a stage where we need support from others to keep our mission
running. That is how I decided to go for a cycle expedition,” Philem was quoted
as saying.

Reportedly, he collaborated with AlphaVector to take
this journey forward. He has also started a fundraiser on Ketto, aiming to raise
a total of Rs 10 lakhs to help his cause.

The resident of Imphal further informed that he and
his friends, back in Manipur, used to have expenses of close to Rs 4,000 to
feed those left without resources, in the city’s Ima Bazaar area.
