A man in the United States found a $2 million (over Rs. 15 crores) lottery ticket. He stumbled upon it on his way out of the supermarket to buy milk.

“I ran out of milk and needed it for my morning coffee,” the lottery winner told the South Carolina Education Lottery officials.

The man was reportedly on his way out of a Food Lion store in Chester County when he noticed a Powerball ticket for the May 14 draw at the customer service counter and purchased it.

Food Lion is a grocery store chain headquartered in Salisbury, North Carolina, that operates over 1100 supermarkets in ten Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern states.

“I freaked out, it’s a large amount, I’m excited,” says the anonymous winner the lottery winner told SCEL.

The first five numbers drawn matched those on his ticket, with the exception of the Powerball number, which was not drawn. However, the man’s near-perfect winnings were doubled because he paid an extra $1 for Powerplay, a multiplier option.

He eventually won $2 million, or Rs. 15.52 crore.

According to the lottery’s official website, the odds of winning such a large sum are 1 in 1,16,88,054 or one in 11 million.

Another man in North Carolina received a similar fate when he purchased two identical $2 tickets and won a jackpot on each of them, despite not intending to buy the tickets in the first place.
