In a bizarre incident, a Madhya Pradesh man married two women in the same wedding ceremony. Sandeep Uike, hailing from Betul, Madhya Pradesh, married two women in the presence of his family and villagers on June 29.

Uike, a tribal youth from Salaiya village, married Sunanda from Hoshangabad and Sashikala from Koyalari village of Ghodadongri block. Uike met Sunanda while he was studying at an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Bhopal. Back home, his family set up his wedding with Sashikala, which led to arguments between families.

The families of the man and the two women called the panchayat to resolve the issue. The panchayat said that if Sunanda and Sashikala agree to live together with Uike, he can marry both. The suggestion was mutually accepted by all three families, including both women.

Uike wedded both Sunanda and Sashikala in presence of everyone in Keria village, the locals said. This is probably the first incident where a man has married two women in the same wedding ceremony, following all the rituals.

However, the matter is being investigated by the district administration.
