With his photograph of a Kashmiri kebab vendor, an Indian photographer has won a renowned international photography competition. Debdatta Chakraborty was crowned Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2022.
The image is titled 'Kebabiyana.'
Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year honours food photographers from all over the world.
Chakraborty was chosen as the overall winner of Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2022.
The snapshot was taken at Srinagar's Khayyam Chowk, an alleyway that during the day seems like any other street. Vendors ignite many charcoal ovens in the evening, and the aroma and smoke of wazwan kebabs from the grills transform this street into a foodie's paradise. The shot excellently captures a barbeque establishment in Srinagar where a man is seen brushing kebabs on a grill with ghee, with smoke rising from the grill.
The image description says, “Khayyam Chowk is an alleyway in Sri Nagar, which is no different from other streets during daytime. But, in the evening, numerous charcoal ovens are lit up by vendors and the aroma and smoke of wazwan kebabs turn this street into a food-lover’s paradise."
Caroline Kenyon, the creator and director of Pink Lady Meal Photographer, stated,"[The photo] beautifully captured billowing embrace of the smoke, the golden light, the subject's expression as he prepares the food for sharing."
“Sparks fly from the skewers, whose roasting we can almost smell, we imagine the warm, delicious aroma. This image, gentle but powerful, nourishes our soul,” she added.
Chakraborty, for one, looked overjoyed by the acknowledgement. "I can't believe it," he remarked on Instagram as he shared the news.
Thousands of entries were sent from 60 nations, according to the BBC. Finalists were picked for 27 of these categories. The winners were announced at a live-streamed event on the competition's YouTube page yesterday.
