As per animal services, the female dog was picked up by a sheriff’s deputy and transferred to an animal services officer, who then brought the dog to the Coachella Valley Animal Campus.

The officer noticed that the projectile had punctured the tan chihuahua.

He held the dog in his arms outside the facility before the hospital opened to ensure that the dog did not flee or injure itself.

The arrow had become entangled in a fence, and the dog was unable to free himself.

The arrow did not strike the puppy’s vital arteries, as per the veterinary staff.

According to veterinary technician Ivan Herrera, “it was purely a superficial wound.” Mr Herrera also stated that once inside the facility, the dog appeared stoic and calm, allowing the staff to assist him.

Animal Services Director Erin Gettis said in the statement –

“For someone to willfully shoot this poor pup with an arrow is disgusting. We are shocked and we hope someone can provide us with any information as to who did this.”

After medicating the dog to reduce pain, the doctors were able to remove the pointed arrowhead from the shaft.

Since then, the dog has “recovered and is acting like a healthy puppy.”

According to the LA Times, the dog is energetic, barking and wagging its tail for attention.
