A hilarious video of a giant panda trying to escape from its enclosure has gone viral. According to Metro News, the surprised visitors at China’s Beijing Zoo saw a six-year-old Meng Lan scaling the wall of its enclosure on Wednesday, December 15. As the panda climbed the six-foot-tall metal fence surrounding his enclosure, the zoo staff ensured that the curious crowd  kept their distance from the panda.

The video shows Meng Lan first climbing the six-foot-tall metal fencing surrounding his enclosure and then entering a buffer zone that separates his enclosure from the area open to guests.

Another footage shows the curious panda peeking out of the buffer zone and looking out at the visitors in the zoo. Meng Lan did not enter the area of the zoo that is open to visitors.

The Beijing Zoo posted on Chinese microblogging platform Weibo that Meng Lan never came in contact with the public and never entered the area of the zoo that is accessible to visitors.

Following the panda’s escape, zookeepers lured it back to its enclosure and offered it food, and it was later seen playing inside.

The zoo added that they plan to modify the enclosure to prevent any more attempts as the panda has a history of naughty behavior.

Meng Lan was born at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in 2015 and moved to the Beijing Zoo two years later.

Internet users are liking and sharing the video. One user wrote “Kung Fu Panda himself!”, while some were reminded of the time in 2016 when it tried a similar escape as a baby. 

Recently, panda twins Huanlili and Yuandudu at the Beauval Zoo in France made their public debut. The female panda twins are only the second and third cubs born in France. The zoo shared a video of the cubs taking small unsteady steps and trying to climb small rocks.
