Haseeb-ul-Hasan, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader who was expecting a ticket in the MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) polls, and was denied the ticket, is reported to have climbed up a tower in protest. As police reached the spot, an angry Haseeb-ul-Hasan said AAP had cheated him by denying him the ticket.

Haseeb-ul-Hasan was enraged after AAP’s list of candidates for the MCD polls did not feature his name. He climbed a tower outside a metro station as people gathered outside. While he was up on the tower, people from below pleaded with him to come down. Police and media gathered around the spot.

After a lot of entreaties, Haseeb-ul-Hasan climbed down from the tower. But upon coming down, he blasted senior leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party. He said AAP leaders had taken money to sell tickets for the MCD polls. Hasan said he was made an offer to pay money for his ticket, but he did not have the money.

Hasan named names and said Durgesh Pathak, Atishi and Sanjay Singh, all senior leaders of AAP, were selling party tickets.

Details of Haseeb-ul-Hasan’s personal life are little known. However, this is not the first time he has made the news. In March this year, he was seen cleaning a sewer and the people of the region bathing him in milk after, in a video that went viral on the internet.

At the time, many had pointed out a resemblance between him and Anil Kapoor’s character in the popular film Nayak. Interestingly, AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal’s brand of politics is also said to resemble Kapoor’s character in the film where he plays a journalist-turned-chief minister.

The MCD elections are scheduled on December 4. This year’s municipal elections are a high-strung prestige battle between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and AAP. While the BJP has retained the MCD, AAP has shown that it has tremendous support in state-level elections. AAP and BJP have engaged in frequent wars of words. AAP has said people of Delhi will vote for them to clean the “garbage mountains” gifted by BJP.
