Tizzi is an influencer and a food vlogger from China. She is popular on the streaming platform Douyin for eating unusual animals and has 7.8 million followers.

This content creator recently shared a video of her cooking and eating a great white shark. The video showed Tizzi collecting a long shark at a seafood shop in Nanchong. She then covers the roasted tail of the shark in pepper. Further, she cuts the fish and then barbecues its tail and boils its head in a broth. Tizzi says in the clip, “It may look vicious, but its meat is truly super tender.” She also shares this white shark meal with local villagers and towards the end of the vlog, she claimed the creature was a hook tooth shark that was bred in captivity.

The local police in Nanchong, Southwest China’s Sichuan Province have confirmed that the shark in Tizzi’s video was a great white shark and further investigation is being conducted on the same. In China, the great white sharks are listed as endangered animals and their illegal possession can lead to up to 10 years of imprisonment.  According to a local media report, Tizzi said that she acquired the shark through “legal channels”, but the local agriculture bureau said that her claim was “inconsistent with the facts”.

The video clip has been deleted from the social media account of the influencer. An official of the Nanchong agriculture and rural bureau told Beijing News that the value of the animal is needed to file a case, and whether the shark was an adult will lead to different penalties.
