A meteorite
crashed into a woman’s house in Canada and landed right next to her on her bed
surprising many. The picture of the meteorite and the roof has gone viral on
social media. Ruth Hamilton, the woman who suffered the ordeal, said she woke
up to a bang and spotted the big rock on the pillow lying next to her.
“The next thing
was just a huge explosion and debris all over my face,” Hamilton told CBC News
in an interview, adding that she jumped out of bed and turned on the lights. “I
didn’t know what else to do, so I called 911,” she said.

A few kilometres
east, near Lake Louise, several people had gathered to watch the meteorite
fall. Police reached Hamilton’s house to investigate the rock. Initially, cops
thought that a nearby construction site could have had something to do with the
rock by the bed. But the cops found no evidence that the rock came from there and
landed at the house as a result of the blast.
The only feasible
explanation the cops found was that a meteorite had made its way through
Hamilton’s roof.

According to
Canadian media, the charcoal grey-coloured rock had fallen from space, crashed
into Hamilton’s roof and landed by her bedside, inches away from her person. Initially,
Hamilton was unaware that the rock beside her was a meteorite. Experts at The
University of Western Ontario confirmed that the rock was indeed from space.

Peter Brown, a
professor of the university, confirmed to local media that it is indeed a meteorite.
“Everything about the story was consistent with a meteorite fall and the fact
that this fright fireball had occurred basically right after at the same time
made it a pretty overwhelming case,” the professor said.
Ruth Hamilton will
send the rock to the experts who hope to identify the type of meteorite.
