Serum Institute of India, makers of Covishield vaccine in India, will now be able to sell vaccines to the state governments and private hospitals after Central government allowed to do so on Monday. 

SII have announced the vaccine prices at Rs 400 for state governments and Rs 600 for private hospitals. Whereas, the vaccine maker is selling the AstraZeneca vaccine for Rs 150 to the Indian government raging reactions on social media.

The two vaccine-makers of India, SII and Bharat Biotech will now be able to sell the vaccine in open market. There have been continuous efforts being made to ramp up production of the vaccine as the inoculation drive opens for all above 18 years of age from May 1.

The Covaxin's price for state governments and private hospitals is yet to be out and after SII's price, it will be interesting to see if Covaxin's price is more or less than SII's.
