- Crystal Palace drew Brighton 1-1
- Wilfried Zaha converted a spot-kick
- Brighton missed the chance to go to the top of the table in the Premier League
Brighton and Hove Albion came from behind to snatch a late draw on Monday in the Premier League encounter against Crystal Palace. The game ended 1-1 at Salhaust Park. Wilfried Zaha scored for Crystal Palace, converting a spot-kick in the dying minutes of the first half.
Neil Maupay ran through to lob home a finish in the fifth minute of stoppage time to earn a late draw for the Seagulls. The goal came as Joel Veltman helped the ball forward from just inside his own half following a poor clearance by Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita.
Before that, Zaha put Palace ahead from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time after Conor Gallagher was fouled in the box by Leandro Trossard as the midfielder ran into the area.
Though the Seagulls had the majority of the possession, they could not find the right last pass in front of the goal till the last minute. Brighton missed the chance to go to the top of the table in the Premier League. If they had won the game, they would have leapfrogged Liverpool after accumulating 15 points in six games.
Palace was denied just a second victory of the season under recently hired manager Patrick Vieira, after beating Tottenham 3-0 in its last home match.
Brighton stayed in sixth place but moved into a tie for points with Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Everton, who are all a point behind leader Liverpool.
In other Premier League news, Argentina has summoned three players from the league for South American World Cup qualifiers next month. They were involved in the suspended match with Brazil earlier this month.
Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez and Tottenham's Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso were picked by coach Lionel Scaloni on Monday to face Paraguay, Uruguay, and Peru. The coach did not choose midfielder Emiliano Buendia, who was also involved in the chaos in Sao Paulo.
