Eight existing franchises in November 2021 confirmed their retention picks for the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). A total of 27 players, including eight foreigners and four uncapped players, were retained by the franchises while a plethora of big names were released into the auction pool. KL Rahul, David Warner, Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya are some of the big names that were released by their respective teams into the auction pool. The two new teams, Lucknow and Ahmedabad, can now select three players each from the pool, before all ten teams battle it out at the mega auction to rope in the best of talents. The mega auction is scheduled to be held in January 2022.
