“Happy Science is a Japanese cult run by a man who claims to be the incarnation of multiple Gods while pretending to channel the psychic spirits of anyone from Quetzalcoatl to Bashar al-Assad to Natalie Portman,” researcher Sarah Hightower told Vice News.

Founded in 1986 by  Ryuho Okawa, the movement was officially recognised as a religion in Japan in 1991. Its annual revenue is estimated to be around $45 million. He has claimed to channel the spirits of famous people who are both dead and alive

The religion is structured as a ‘pay-to-progress’ system of membership. Happy Science has been hostile to news media as per reports.

Happy Science has previously gotten into trouble for offering a ‘spiritual vaccine’ for COVID-19 for $400.

Earlier, Okawa had also claimed to have channelled the inner spirit of Donald Trump’s guardian.
