SpaceX Crew Dragon Endeavour splashed down in the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday afternoon on time after re-entering the Earth’s atmosphere and deploying its parachutes without any glitches. The Dragon had departed from International Space Station on Saturday.

Pilot Doug Hurley, one of the two astronauts on board, said: “It’s truly our honor and privilege” as radio communications became choppy and cut out.

US President Donald Trump hailed the safe return of astronauts, tweeting, “Great to have NASA Astronauts return to Earth after very successful two month mission. Thank you to all!”

“Astronauts complete first splashdown in 45 years. Very exciting!”

The SpaceX splashdown was the first water landing for a US spacecraft since the Apollo-Soyuz mission of 1975.
