Smith came out to bat early in the first session after the visitors chose to bat first in the series-decider. Australia were at eight runs for the loss of two wickets. David Warner (7) and Marnus Labuschagne (0) were the batsmen sent back to the pavilion by Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi.

The former Australia skipper looked in fine touch from the first ball. However, in the 11th over, his concentration was disrupted when a buggy cam, placed at deep mid wicket, started to move . Hasan Ali was bowling at the time.

“Stop moving,” Smith exclaimed, as he gestured towards the person controlling the camera.

Watch:

Commentators Rob Key and Urooj Mumtaz were left in splits.

Normally, a buggy cam at that angle does not disturb batsmen but the commentators said, it was due to Smith’s peripheral vision that he tracked it.

“How he’s seen that I don’t know. I mean, it’s on the boundary at deep mid-wicket and he’s not happy … it’s a good 100 yards away I’d say. Extraordinary,” Rob Key can be heard saying in the video.

“I have never seen that before. One thing is for sure, Steve Smith has the best peripheral vision on the planet,” Urooj Mumtaz said.

Smith (59) faced 169 balls and hit six fours before he was undone by Naseem’s delivery, which came back sharply and hit the batter’s knee in front of the stumps.

Pakistan recovered from dropped catches to restrict Australia to 232-5 and deny Usman Khawaja a second consecutive century on Day 1 of the third and final Test.

Fast bowler Naseem Shah, the only Pakistan change from the second drawn test at Karachi, picked up 2-36 to lead a fightback in the last session. Cameron Green was unbeaten on 20 and Alex Carey was not out on 8 when bad light stopped play two overs before the scheduled close.
