At least four people were injured after a stampede broke out at the Hyderabad Gymkhana grounds as cricket fans swarmed the place to purchase tickets for the third T20I of India versus Australia match. The match is scheduled to take place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on September 25.

The crowd had gathered at the Gymkhana grounds to purchase tickets but the situation soon spiralled out of control and a stampede broke out. The large number of fans were causing law and order issues following which the police lathi-charged in an attempt to disperse the crowd and restore some control.

First T20I Match

So far in the series, Australia is leading 1-0 after the first match in Mohali. The continental nation won the toss opting to bowl first, mounting pressure on the Indian batting order. Unfortunately, openers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were quickly dismissed, making only 11 and 2 runs respectively. After a dismal opening, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav managed to help the Men in Blue stabilise with a 69-run stand.

Hardik Pandya came in towards the end of the innings hitting a blazing 71 runs off just 30 balls as he slammed seven fours and fives sixes past the boundary walls. India finished the innings at 208/6.

Australian pacers Nathan Ellis (3/30) and Josh Hazlewood (2/39) made quick work of the India’s top order.

The Baggy Greens, as they are sometimes called opened strong, with a solid partnership between Aaron Finch and Cameron Green leading a 39-run stand. After the dismissal of Finch, Green stayed on as Steve Smith came on. Green was finally dismissed having made a respectable 61 runs off just 30 balls. 

India staged a comeback of sorts, dismissing Smith, Glen Maxwell and Josh Inglis within a space of just 36 runs. But the presence of wicketkeeper-batsmen Matthew Wade and a fresh Tim David turned the tide as the duo cinched the deal, closing out the match with a 62 run stand, bringing Australia’s final score to 211-6.
