Some of the divorces of NFL players were down to physical and mental abuses
Reportedly, both Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen have hired divorce attorneys.
When news emerged that NFL superstar Tom Brady’s wife and supermodel Gisele Bundchen had left their Florida home for Costa Rica following a series of arguments with her husband, many were surprised. The couple has been married for 13 long years, since 2009, and have three children. News of their fighting has surfaced before as well, however, they have always reunited.
However, it seems more than the other times. Gisele has been vocal about Brady’s lack of focus on his family publicly and has also said that it is she who takes care of all the children. Brady has also admitted that he needs to give more effort to his family.
The couple does not seem to be moving on from one another, a considerable gap has been created between them. Such gaps have often resulted in breakups or divorces for NFL players and the fans know about it all. Let’s take a look at five of the most problematic breakups and divorces NFL players have gone through.
The quarterback was a first-round pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2014. He separated from his wife and model Bre Tiesi in 2019, when the latter claimed unfaithfulness on the former’s part.
"This is all very, very personal and very sad," Manziel said during that time.
However, after the couple split officially, Tiesi celebrated with a ‘divorce party'. She shared photos of the party on Instagram, where she was seen enjoying herself with her friends.
“Thanks to all my girls for the craziest divorce party," the photo’s caption read. “No shade to J (Johnny Manziel), wish you nothing but the best, love ya️,” it added.
Another former NFL quarterback, Jay Cutler played for Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos and the Miami Dolphins in his career. In his case, it was the NFL player who celebrated before the divorce was completed with his wife and reality TV star Kristin Cavallari.
“When the settlement came through, I threw a party,” Cutler said on the Uncut with Jay Cutler podcast. The couple was divorced in 2020.
This was a strange case, even to the biggest NFL fans. Earl Thomas, whose NFL career was spent with the Seattle Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens. He was held at gunpoint by his wife Nina for an alleged affair in early 2020. However, it was Nina who filed for divorce seven months after that incident.
Nina mentioned adultery as the ground behind her wish for divorce.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kordell Stewart divorced his wife Porsha Williams in December 2013. Porsha later revealed that she was blindsided by the divorce as she came to know about it from social media. She also made claims that Stewart abused her during their marriage, which Stewart denied.
Former Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants running back Herschel Walker was divorced by his wife Cindy DeAngelis Grossman in 2001.
Grossman accused Walker of physical abuse while filing for divorce. She also later revealed that the former NFL star pointed a gun at her head and said, "I'm going to blow your f****ng brains out." Grossman also said that he used to threaten her with knives.
Walker said that the behaviour was a result of his dissociative identity disorder, for which he was diagnosed in 2001.
