Star running back Christian McCaffrey has joined the San Francisco 49ers after getting traded from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for the 2nd round pick of 2023, the 3rd round pick of 2023 and the 4th Round pick of 2023 along with a 5th Round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

San Francisco has the fifth-best defense in the league, giving up just 14.3 points per game this season. This trade provides San Francisco with the offensive weapon it needs to compete for a Super Bowl. The team already has a steady lineup at wide receiver comprising Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk and at the tight end of George Kittle.

Let’s look at the San Francisco 49ers running back depth chart after the McCaffrey trade:

1) Christian McCaffrey

In the presence of Deebo Samuel and George Kittle, McCaffrey will light up the 49ers’ offense with his fast running. Head coach Kyle Shanahan loves to run the football more rather than throw it which is why they made Trey Lance their starting QB. But the unfortunate injury to the player meant Jimmy Garoppolo will be the QB for the team. McCaffrey has recorded 85 carries for two rushing TDs along with a receiving TD in 33 receptions.

2) Jeff Wilson Jr

The current RB1 will likely have his position lost with the arrival of McCaffrey. Wilson has recorded 81 carry attempts for 400 yards with two touchdowns. He also has eight receptions for 70 yards.

3) Tyrion Davis Price

The rookie running back has not got enough playing time in the season, featuring in just two games and recording 14 carry attempts for 33 yards. In the presence of RB like McCaffrey, he will develop into a good player in the league.

San Francisco is currently at the top of the NFC West and will face AFC West leaders face the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, October 24.
