England captain Joe Root, two days in a row, scripted history with his 100th Test-match century and a very special double century. The English batsman played effortless cricket and scored runs with ease, leaving the Indian bowling attack worn out and out of options. While his teammates, cricketers and media alike have been praising Root’s godly innings, former England cricketer Andrew Flintoff decided to take lauding one notch higher.

Flintoff dug out a five-year-old conversation he had on Twitter with Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan.

“With the greatest respect , this aged well,” Flintoff replied to Bachchan’s 2016 Tweet of trash-talking Joe Root.

The veteran Bollywood actor, who is vocal about his love for sports, was replying to Flintoff’s tweet, in which he had compared Virat Kohli to Root, saying that the Indian batsman might “catch up” with Root someday.

On the match front, a 124-run partnership between Root and Ben Stokes set up England for a big total in Chennai. Root, who became the first cricketer to hit a double century in 100th Test, was caught leg before by spinner Shahbaz Nadeem, who gave the hosts a big breakthrough.

Powered by Ishant Sharma’s double blows, dismissing Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer, India pegged back the visitors a little. However, Jack Leach and Dominic Bess stood tall and ensured that no wickets fall before the curtains are drawn for the day.

With England eyeing a massive 700-run, India will be hoping to wrap up the English tail early.
