Alfie Haaland, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland‘s father, is at Elland Road to watch his son’s team play against Leeds United in the Premier League on Wednesday.

The senior Haaland has been a player with both Manchester City and Leeds United during his time as a professional footballer in England back in the late 90s and early 2000s.

In fact, the 22-year-old City striker was born in Leeds when his father was still playing for Leeds United.

Here’s a video of Alfie Haaland with Norweigian sports journalist Jan Aage Fjørtoft.

Erling Haaland has taken the Premier League by storm since his quiet signing for Pep Guardiola in the summer of 2022. He has scored a record 18 Premier League goals from only 13 matches. To put his performance in perspective, the previous season’s top goal scorers Tottenham Hotspur’s Heung Min Son and Liverpool’s Mo Salah scored 23 goals each from 38 matches.

The 22-year-old has also scored five goals in the UEFA Champions League this season, already taking his total goal tally to over 20 in the ongoing season. If he carries on his current form, he will keep the pole position as the league’s top scorer and will take home the coveted golden boot award.

In the match against Leeds, Haaland received a start as expected. However, the big surprise in the lineup was Rico Lewis, an 18-year-old, who received a place in the starting eleven ahead of big names such as Kyle Walker and Joao Cancello in the right full-back spot.

Speaking to the media ahead of the match, Guardiola said that the young fullback’s performance against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup match earned him a place in the starting eleven at Leeds.

“The way he played vs Liverpool, it’d be unfair not to let him play again,” the Spanish manager said. “Almost impossible to play better than him. He has to play again. We need Kyle/Joao as soon as possible. He’s in a perfect position to play.”
