The Fifa World Cup 2026 will have 48 teams participating against one another, as opposed to the traditional 32 teams, for the first time since the competition’s start in 1930.

Another first for the sport of football will occur in the 2026 edition, known as “United 2026,” which will be co-hosted by three North American nations: Mexico, Canada (for the first time), and the United States. In June 2022, the 16 cities where the matches will take place were made public.

The three nations earned the right to host the competition in 2018, according to The Economic Times, after a majority of Fifa’s congress voted in favour of these countries over Morocco.

Since the inaugural World Cup took place in 1930, the 2030 edition will be more memorable because it will be its centennial anniversary.

The Athletic reports that a number of bidders have emerged, even though the hosting country for this will only be decided in 2024:

-A combined effort by Spain and Portugal, with conflict-torn Ukraine participating despite being geographically quite remote from both the Iberian countries and participating in the bid

-A four-way South American (CONMEBOL) proposal from Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay, and Chile honours the tournament’s origins because Uruguay hosted the 1930 edition. But none of these countries has released a formal statement on the subject.

-Egypt, Greece, and Saudi Arabia have made an unconfirmed tri-continental bid.

Cristiano Ronaldo, 37, has agreed to join Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr club for the next two and a half years. According to the Spanish tabloid Marca, Ronaldo is ready to sign a lucrative £172.9 million-per-year contract with the club. Ronaldo represented Portugal in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

He recently became the only player in World Cup history to score in all five tournaments. Ronaldo is expected to leave Manchester United this summer. According to rumours, he did not get his wish to participate in the Champions League. Al-Nassr is one of Saudi Arabia’s most successful football clubs.
