As India beat England to register their fifth U19 World Cup led by Yash Dhull, let’s look back at the four players before him to have achieved this feat, and where they are now.

Mohammad Kaif

Kaif was noted for his flexibility and wicket-keeping skills on the field, and he was extremely agile. Kaif, who is now retired, works as an expert coach with the Delhi Capitals. In fact, when the U-19 boys’ team beat Sri Lanka for the first time in 2000, Kaif was the captain. Aside from Kaif, Yuvraj Singh was also a member of the U-19 team that won the trophy.

Kaif most recently captained the Indian Maharajas team in the Legends League.

Virat Kohli

Definitely the biggest star to emerge from a fiery U-19 skipper, Delhi-born Virat Kohli even scored hundreds while captaining the U-19 team. In fact, following Mohammad Kaif in 2000, Virat Kohli led the U-19 team to their second World Cup victory in Malaysia, when they defeated South Africa in the final.

Kohli is, of course, still a member of the current Indian cricket squad, despite the fact that he is no longer the captain. Kohli is a member of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team and has also served as its captain.

Unmukt Chand

Unmukt Chand is without a doubt one of the brightest lights that U-19 cricket has produced. Unmukt, who hails from Delhi, went on to hit 111 off 130 in the chase to a target of 226 against Australia, ensuring India’s third World Cup victory.

However, following a successful career in India, which included playing in the IPL and captaining the India A team, the 28-year-old Chand has relocated to the United States of America and has become a citizen there. He has retired from Indian cricket and is now eligible to play for the United States. He was also the first Indian player to play in the Big Bash League (BBL).

Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw, another major prospect who emerged from the U-19 World Cup, made a lot of noise on the local circuit before joining the Delhi Capitals in the IPL. Shaw is the last U-19 captain to lift the trophy, having led the squad to its fourth World Cup title, the most by any team in history. Shaw is currently a member of the Indian national team as well as the IPL.
