Veteran Argentina forward Angel Di Maria kissed Luka Modric as Croatia lost to Argentina in the FIFA World Cup 2022 semi-final at Lusail Stadium. The 37-year-old Real Madrid midfielder has been one of the superstars of the game and just as many were hoping that Messi would play in the Qatar World Cup final, many were also hoping the same for Modric.
However, the 2018 World Cup winner failed to have the last laugh as Messi and co. won the tie with three goals to none.

Former Albiceleste striker Sergio Aguero, who is with the squad to provide them with support, also consoled Modric as he walked down the tunnel visibly sad.

Luka Modric has been Angel Di Maria’s long-time colleague in Real Madrid and the two are good friends. The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner came close to winning the World Cup in 2018 when they reached the final eventually losing 4-2 to France.

At the age of 37, this is most likely Modric’s final FIFA World Cup as he will be the 41-year-old in the next tournament. The veteran midfielder has not yet said anything about retirement and if not in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, he will certainly feature in 2024 Euro Cup.

Irrespective of whether he plays in either of the two tournaments, Luka Modric is one of football’s biggest stars and anyone who has watched him play will not be able to forget him.
