Manchester United and Ajax’s tussles have continued throughout the summer transfer window. United had at first signed their manager, Erik ten Hag, and also their centre-back, Lisandro Martinez. Now they are desperate to also secure the signature of Ajax’s star winger, Antony. The Amsterdam club has rejected a bid of €90 million by the Red Devils. However, the Brazilian himself is eager to make the switch to the Premier League. Reports suggest that he has refused to play in Ajax’s Eredivise match against FC Utrecht in order to force the move.

Ajax are apparently waiting for a €100 million bid by United in order to make the ten Hag-Antony reunion a reality. On Friday afternoon, Antony, along with his agents, met Ajax officials at the Johan Cruyff Arena in order to force the move. In an interview with sports journalist Fabrizio Romano, the winger recently said that “Since February of this year, my agents came to Amsterdam to inform Ajax of my desire to leave the club to face new challenge and that some interested clubs would arrive and with them, certainly a great offer”.

Besides selling Lisandro Martinez to United this season, Ajax have also parted ways with Sebastian Haller, who was signed by Borussia Dortmund, Ryan Grfavenberch to Bayern Munich, and Argentine international Nicolas Tagliafico to Lyon.

Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder has reportedly told club officials that he is not willing to lose any more players this season. Schruder recently said,

“I can’t see why he wants to go to Manchester United. We are playing in the Champions League and they are not”. He further added, “Yes, they are a big club, but so are we in my opinion. For me it is clear. I have lost so many players, this boy is staying!”

United fielded their newest signing, Antony’s compatriot Casemiro, in their Premier League match against Southampton. They are next set to face Leicester City on September 2.
