The Asia
Cup India versus Pakistan match is all Twitter can talk about on Sunday. The
morning, however, began with conversation around the demolition of the Noida
twin towers, a 44-floor building comprising 915 flats. As the match began, Indian
skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field. Pakistan’s opening batsmen
left something to be desired. Babar Azam, captain and Pakistan’s biggest cricketing
star right now, fell for a paltry 10 runs of 9 balls.

Mohammed
Rizwan, who came into bat along with Babar Azam, tried to put up a brave
defence. He scored 43 runs of the 42 balls he played with four fours and one
six. He was later caught on a short delivery by Hardik Pandya. Avesh Khan took
the catch.

As Pakistan
lost its openers, Indian Twitter compared the incident to the blowing up of the
twin towers in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida on Sunday morning.
Ayush Jain
Ranka, a Twitter user, wrote: “Pak fan’s heart when Babar Azam got out!!” He embedded
a video of the twin towers sinking into oblivion.
Author and
columnist Anand Ranganathan also tweeted a similar video captioned: “Live
visuals of Pakistani openers.”
NocturnalSoul,
another Twitter user, wrote: “Pakistan opening twin towers also collapsed.”
The
Supertech twin towers in Noida were demolished Sunday, a historical moment for
India, which demolished such a large building for the first time. Nearly 3,700
kilos of explosives were attached to the building to enable the demolition. As
the buildings went down, there were concerns about the environmental impact of
demolishing a 44-floor building with 915 flats. After the demolition, surveyors
found the boundary wall of a neighbouring building collapsed and windows were
shattered in some houses.
The
building had to be demolished after India’s Supreme Court found the
construction illegal.
