The coronavirus has been reshuffling the sports schedule for the last one year. Once again, the Australian Grand Prix was postponed to November and, China’s race was suspended indefinitely.

The decision came on Tuesday that the Australian Grand Prix, the traditional season opener, will be postponed from March to November. While the Australian race has a fixed date to when it has been shifted, the Chinese Grand Prix has been postponed without any confirmation on its date. Under normal circumstances, it happens in April.

Although the other two have been postponed for longer periods, the record 23-race season will begin soon in Bahrain on March 28. It has only been postponed by a week from its traditional starting date.

The global pandemic has not yet allowed life to return to normal, but we showed in 2020 that we can race safely as the first international sport to return,” F1 president Stefano Domenicali said

He also added that discussions about the Chinese Grand Prix are underway, and it might be held at the end of the season, if possible. Currently, the travel restrictions are adding to the vagueness about the exact date.

“Obviously, the virus situation remains fluid, but we have the experience from last season with all our partners and promoters to adapt accordingly and safely in 2021,” Domenicali said.
