Barcelona have submitted a new bid for wantaway Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, but it is unclear whether the Bundesliga giants are willing to part with their star striker.

According to transfers guru Fabrizio Romano, the Blaugrana have submitted a bid guaranteeing €40 million to Bayern, in addition to performance-related add-ons.

The journalist also reported that Lewandowski was willing to wait for a move to Barcelona, something that’s on the table given his agent’s good relation with Barca president Joan Laporta.

The news on Barcelona’s bid is the latest development in what is turning out to be a very long-drawn transfer saga surrounding the Pole.

With Bayern having already acquired Sadio Mane from Liverpool, all reports suggest that Lewandowski is on his way out.

However, Bayern director Hasan Salihamidžić last week played down the chances of the Pole moving to Spain, after he met Lewandowski and his agent in Mallorca.

“Meeting in Mallorca with Robert was very good. Each side explained their position, good one. Lewandowski staying? Until now it’s 100%. July 12 is his first day at work, so I’m awaiting him,” Salihamidžić had said.

However, Lewandowski, who reportedly already has a verbal agreement with Barcelona, has expressly stated that he does not want to continue for the Bavarian club.

Speaking to Onet Sport a few weeks back, the 33-year-old had said, “I only want to leave Bayern. Loyalty and respect are more important than work. The best way is to find a solution together. Something has died in me, I want to leave Bayern for more emotions in my life.”

While it is unclear whether Lewandowski will be allowed to leave prior to the expiration of his contract next summer, Barcelona are already reportedly gearing up to announce two signings this weekend: that of Franck Kessie from AC Milan and Andreas Christensen from Chelsea.
